Job Description
All picking and packing duties will be performed in the field and on the farm.
Field Workers (Iceberg Lettuce, Romaine Lettuce, Broccoli, Green leaf lettuce, and butter lettuce: Picker, Cutter, Packer) to perform the following duties:
Field workers to harvest romaine and iceberg lettuce.
Workers will use knife to pick, cut lettuce from ground, place it on a packing table, and pack the lettuce into various types of boxes or totes, or conveyor belt in the field.
Cut, bag, pack, and load fresh lettuce in the field. Manual cutting is done by walking in uneven furrows behind a harvesting conveyor belt with tables. Under the direction of the field Supervisors, employees determine size and quality of the product to be harvested. Then, using a harvesting hand knife and bending at the waist, the employee cuts the head from the roots and trims the outer leaves from the head to prepare it to be placed into a carton or tote. The process is repeated. Workers may also be requested to clean farm equipment.
Workers may occasionally and/or sporadically perform duties associated with and directly related to the primary duties. Such work will be temporary and unsubstantial agricultural labor. Sanitation:
• Rinse, clean and sanitize harvest machines, harvest equipment such as tractors, trailers, trucks, and vehicles.
• Drive vehicles to and from harvest machine work sites.
• Scrub and spray machine parts, equipment, or vehicles, using brushes, scrub pads, cleaners, disinfectants, acid, or hoses.
• Inspect parts, equipment, or vehicles for cleanliness, damage, and compliance with standards or regulations.
• Mix cleaning solutions, abrasive compositions, or other compounds, according to formulas and manufacturers directions.
• Maintain inventories of supplies.
• Pre-soak or rinse machine parts, equipment, or vehicles by spraying objects with cleaning solutions or water, manually.
• Turn valves or disconnect hoses to get water and cleaning solutions.
• Turn valves or handles on equipment to regulate pressure or flow of water.
• Monitor operation of cleaning machines and stop machines or notify supervisors when malfunctions occur.
• Press buttons to activate cleaning equipment or machines.
• Connect hoses or lines to pumps or other equipment.
• Collect samples for analysis or testing.
• Test water, materials and solutions.
• Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
• Provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, or in person.
