There are various positions available. You will have a chance to specify which jobs and locations you are interested in during the application process. One application is required to access all of the student jobs we have available. We have positions as costumed tour guides, customer service jobs that work directly with the public, landscaping and grounds maintenance jobs and jobs in communications available. These jobs are on-location at Parks Canada sites and may require you to work from various locations. Additional positions may become available.
Some positions may require a class 5I or 5F driver's license. Please specify if you have a driver's license in your application.
Collections Student (Lower Fort Garry)
Tenure
Available for full time employment 37.5 hours a week May 2024 to August 2024. One position is available.

What the job does
►Working with historic collections at the historic site;
►Inventorying, packing and moving museum artifacts;
►Photographing museum artifacts and reproductions to document their current condition and location;
►Maintenance of the costume collection, repair, cleaning, inventory;
►Using museum database systems to update information.
Grounds Maintenance Student (Lower Fort Garry, The Forks)
Tenure
Jobs available from May 6 2024 to August 23 2024. Some jobs in June may be available. Full time Monday to Friday 40 hours a week. We typically hire six students a summer for these positions.

What the job does
Help keep Parks Canada administered sites clean! Generally our Maintenance Team meets at Lower Fort Garry daily and completes maintenance at multiple national historic sites.
Provides general maintenance and labour services such as:
► Working on trails, gardens, grounds, roads, solid waste management, maintaining fleet vehicles and related facilities maintenance;
► Supporting trades staff in construction and installations;
► Supporting Parks Canada events;
► Other general maintenance and repair requirements as directed.
Outreach and Education Student (Winnipeg, MB)
Tenure
Jobs available from May 13 2024 to August 30 2024. Full time 37.5 hours a week. This position has a variable schedule and may work evenings and weekends as needed. We typically hire three students a summer for these positions.

What the job does
The Outreach team connects people with Wapusk National Park and national historic sites in Manitoba through in-person and virtual activities. Outreach students:
► Represent Parks Canada at public events, sharing stories about the cultural and natural history of Canada;
► Help organize and implement activities at high traffic locations like The Forks, Assiniboine Park Zoo or at festivals;
► Support the development of engaging outreach programming.
Social Media and Communications Student (Winnipeg, MB)

► Develop promotional materials and content for programs and events for Parks Canada's website and social media channels (@parkscanadamb / @parcscanadamb on Facebook and X (formally Twitter);
►Assist with developing and implementing social media strategies and campaigns with government messaging on Facebook and X (formally Twitter);
► Help organize and implement activities at high traffic locations like The Forks, Assiniboine Park Zoo or at festivals;
► Develop engaging web content for internal and external channels that showcase our national historic sites and national park.
Student Heritage Presenter (Lower Fort Garry, The Forks)
Tenure
Full time, shift work, including weekends and holidays 37.5 hours a week from May 13 2024 to September 2 2024. Jobs beginning late June 2024 may also be available. Typically, we hire 20-30 students a summer for these positions.

What the job does
►Prepare and deliver guided tours of historic sites;
►Wear a historic costume, provide historic interpretation to the public;
►Develop presentations, participate in drama productions, and conduct historic workshops (bannock making, candle making).
►Deliver school programs and activities;
Visitor Services Attendant (Lower Fort Garry, The Forks, Riel House)

Full time, shift work, including weekends 37.5 hours a week from May 13 2024 to September 2 2024. Jobs beginning late June 2024 may also be available. Typically we hire six students a summer for these positions.

►Sells admissions, park passes, retail merchandise (Cash handling);
►Statistics collection;
We’re looking for people who will show up to work with a smile and excel in a team environment. We want candidates who demonstrate the following Government of Canada “Core Competencies”:

►Helps facilitate third party events and facility rentals;

The "Core Competencies" listed above will form the foundation of the assessment process - you will be assessed during the interview phase on how you demonstrate these core competencies; and, we may use the core competencies to confirm references.
Operational Requirements and Conditions of Employment
Some positions may have the following operational requirements:
- Work shift-work, and/or weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays;
- Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements;
- Be available to work at various locations across Manitoba South, including the Forks National Historic Site, Riel House National Historic Site and Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site;
- Work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation;
- Stand/walk for prolonged periods while delivering tours, or interpretive programming.
